This time of the year you might start noticing a lot of engagement posts popping up on your friends’ social media pages. You might be wondering, is it just me or is everyonegetting engaged right now. It’s not just you. Engagement Season is a real thing. And we’re here to walk you through it.
The holiday season might seem like the perfect time to get engaged; a holiday engagement allows you to celebrate while you are already surrounded by family and friends. In fact, 40% of couples get engaged between November and February. But let’s break that statistic down even more: 17% of engagements occur on the same ten days. Five of those days take place November-February: Thanksgiving, December 23rd, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and Valentine’s Day. Hence why wedding industry pros call this time of the year Engagement Season.
Getting engaged during this time period can pose a few challenges for couples. If you think that you might be getting a ring this holiday season there are a few things you will need to be prepared for.
You’ll need to decide how long to be engaged
Timing can prove to be tricky for a November or December engagement. You and your partner will need to decide if you should opt for a shorter engagement of six-nine months or wait until the following year and have a longer engagement.
For a shorter engagement your planning process will be sped up, but you’ll be surprised how much you can accomplish even within six months!
You might need to be flexible with your date
If you and your partner have decided for a shorter engagement you will need to first find a venue and a date. Be prepared for venues to be completely booked up at this point. You might not be able to find a venue that has the Saturday in October you were hoping for. Be flexible and consider a Friday, Sunday, or Off Season date.
You could have to wait for the perfect venue
If you originally plan on a shorter engagement but fall in love with a venue it’s okay to wait! It isn’t unusual for couples to pick their date off their ideal location’s availability.
You will need to act quickly
At this point in the year you are going to be competing for dates with all of the other couples who are getting engaged. Needless to say, things can get a little cutthroat. Even if you are planning a year+ engagement don't wait on your vendors—things book up quickly this time of the year and dragging your feet could cost you in the end!
Don’t forget to schedule that manicure
Make sure those hands are looking Insta worthy so you can show off that new bling!
